Taking your kitten home.

Before you take your kitten home, You will need to sort out the Paperwork .
You will have a 5 Generation Pedigree and you can choose if you would like your kitten Registered with TICA or GCCF, You will also have a Vaccination card, Diet sheets and information on the worm and flee treatment your kitten has had and the next due dates.
You will have kitten packs, So your kitten has its food it is used to, If you intend to change your food for any reason, Do it slowly, Small amount a day of the new food and less of the old food, In this way it will not upset his stomach.
From the day you take him/her home, Your lives will change so much.
Register the kitten with your Vet and its always a good idea to book him in for just a general health check in the first 72 hours of getting him home, It will give you peace of mind he is in good health and introduces the Kitten to your Vet and the staff.
My kittens are always welcomed at the vets when they go for Vaccinations, As all the staff have to have cuddles.
Ragdolls give you so much love and affection, You will wonder how you did without one before.
THE FIRST DAY HOME.
When you arrive home with your new kitten.
.When the kitten leaves the carrier, Talk to him in a calming way, Praise it and cuddle it, Show it where the litter tray is and encourage it to go in. Show him/her where the food and water is. Keep taking him back to the place and he will soon get to know the place. If your kitten eats from his dish you can rest assured it is a happy transition. If your kitten doesnt eat, Play with it for a while and try again later.
Every kitten is different and settles in different ways.
The first night.
There are two ways to handle the first night. You can either let your kitten sleep in the same room as you, With the litter tray, Food and water and his bed , But be prepared for a small visitor climbing up in the night.
Or you can confine the kitten to one room, If you chose the latter, Be prepared to hear him crying, As your kitten will want to be with you. Remember your kitten has never been alone before and the first night can be difficult.
Introducing other pets. Ragdolls will readily except other pets, They love cats, dogs, Rabbits and even birds. It may be better to let your kitten settle first for a day or two.
Your kitten will want to make friends right away, But another cat may hiss, Dont be too concerned, But never leave them alone until you are certain they are getting on.
My Ragdolls Ceri and Tich, Love my moggy cats and they adore our Jack Russel dog.
They all sleep in our large dog bed together.

When we first kept our Tich, He was a very spoilt boy and would follow muy Mum everywhere, If she stopped and sat down, Tich was on her lap. Mum hand reared him so they do have a very special bond. He settled well with our dog and our Moggy cats and even my very old Persian cross , Sam liked Tich.
A few months later we decided to keep Ceri and we brought her into the family, There was a few nasty hisses and Tich kept his distance. Ceri wanted to go to him but it was over a week before he finally thought, She may be fun, And they started playing together in the climbing frames.
Now four months on and they are never apart, So Yes, That means, My Mum has TWO cats on her lap .

STRESS.
Stress in cats can reduce the affectivness of the immune system. Minor problems can develope into magor problems if your kitten becomes too stressed.
The main cause of stress in a kitten is:- Incorrect diet for your kitten, Excessive handleing by children, Uncomfortable temperatures in the home, Bullying by other pets, Parasites, Moving home and sometimes just bordom. Keep an eye on your kitten, If he seems down and go`s off his food, A trip to the vets may be needed.
NEUTERING.
You can have your kitten neutered around 6 months of age. The males are much more placid after they have been done and they are less likely to mark their scent in the home. They are usually at the vets for about 5 hours and mine have been running around as usual by supper time.
The females have to be in a little longer but you just have to keep them warm and quiet for a few days.
Enjoy your kitten, They grow so quick and you will soon be looking for the next new arrival. They are very addictive.
